G.» Masteirifian, Under-Scorctary to the Home Office, Mr. Markham's amendment to the Mines Bill excluding women from , working at pitbrows was carried in Committee. A deputation of pit-brow girls during tho day arrived in London to interview tho Home Secretary, and were received by Mr. Masterman. In replying to the deputation, Mr. Masterman said' he regretted the Committee's action. It showed the necessity for women's votes on a question which was essentially one for women to decidc. A, men's Parliament, elected by men, hail no right to prohibit women from pitbrow work. He had Mr. Churchill's authority to say that an effort would bo made to alter the Committee's decision.
