DEFINITION OF AN AMATEUB. At a meeting of the Management Committee of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association (Mr. Fither iu the chair), the report by .Mr. G. A. Hurley was adopted and ordered to be forwarded to the N;w Zealand representative upon the council of tbe Lawn Tennis Association to be considered at the minimi meeting in November. Mr. Hurley's proposed definition ia ns follows:— (a) An "amateur" means ami includes a member of any lawn tennis association club or committee affiliated with or recognised by this association, who plays lawn tennis or otherwise supports the game for the benefits naturally arisin" therefrom; but dots not include any per" son who shall have, since January 1 1910 played, or agreed to ph.y, rofraiheil .from playing or agreed to refrain from playing any game of lawn (emu's in expectation of the receipt, directly or indirectly, of any monetary or other valuable consideration in return for such playin? or refraining or such agreement as to cither; provided that nothing herein contained or implied shall debar the payment by any such association, club, or committee, or by this association of any Mini of money in prepayment or reimbursement of the actual and reasonable expenses (,f any trip undertaken by a player for the sole purpose of playing for such n-?oeiation. or of n portion of such expenses in any ease where a player may lie travelling partly on private liumiip<"s or for pleasure!
