PERFORMING MUSICIANS.

» —: A UNION FORMED. After several preliminary meetings, & Wellington Performing Musicians' Industrial Union of Workers was formed yesterday, and will apply immediately for registration ill the usual way. Tho union has beon formed to obtain something like uniformity in fees for different classes of engagement. It is stated that in some, cases there have been varying fees paid to musicians doing.tho same class and amount of work. Notably has this been so where some of the musicians are known to bo in employment during tho day. This has been found to bo prejudicial to thojo who make a living strictly out of musical engagements. This it is hoped to check by getting an agreement or an award which will clearly define what should bo paid for each class of engagement as has been done in Sydney, 'ilio following officers were elected:—President, Mr. D. M'Laren; M.P.; vice-president, Mr. H. Fleming; secretary, Mr. E. Hollowj treasurer, Mr. W. Platt; committee,. Messrs. J. Dempsey, E. J. King, H. B. Oliver, A. Timmings, and Mrs. J. 1), Foley; trust«s, Messrs. 1. Mount and J. H. Oiruar. Votes of thanks nero passed (o Messrs. M'Lareu, Ileyling, and 11. B. Oliver (secretary pro. torn.) for their services in connection with the formation of the union.
