Mr, Napier, on a Bristol biplane, carrying a passenger, was dashed to the ground by a gust of wind while descending at Brooklands. ' The engino of the machine struck and killed Mr. Napier: The passenger escaped with a severe shock. USEFUL NAVAL SCOUTING. Paris, August 2. A series of experiments is being conducted at Cherbourg in the detection of submarines by aeroplanes. Two submarines wero discovered from a height of a thousand feet, three miles out at sea. "DAILY MAIL" AIR RACE. London, August 2. M. Valentine, who competed in tho "Daily Mail" thousand-mile air race, but met with an accident, continuing his flight after repairs, has reached Exeter. Mr. Cody, who also broke down, has reached-Bristol. CROSS-COUNTRY PLIGHT IN CANADA (Rec. August i, 0.50 a.m.) Ottawa, August 3. Two aviators, Messrs. M'Curdy and Willard, flew from Hamilton to Toronto, a distance of 40 miles in 50 minutes. This is the first long-distanco cross-country flight in Canada.
