. $ . ANNUAL MEETING. The. report submitted (o tho Welling■fan Society of Professional Musicians at Ihe annual mooting on Monday evening slated that live ordinary and ono special meeting, and three socials were held during tho year.
Jt is. recommended that a new arrangement be made regarding social meetings lor tlip coming year, and it is hoped that si'jiwlii'rs will evince a more lively interest in what should be one of the society's most important functions, viz., (ho bringing together of the members of the musical profession for social intercourse, for the discussion ol matters nf import am! for providing opportunities ol hearing the performance uf recognised masterpiece*, and (if new and unknown works, sjince the last annual mfciiug the following new members have been elected, some b.y examination and some on known merit:—Messrs. 11. Temple White and 3. 11. Smith, and Misfcs Marion M'k'iunon and Ina Gow, and two of the teachers at the Convent of Mercy, i'almcrston North, Misses M. h. Scgrici and M. C. Rowe. designations have been received from Mesdames Glover-Eaton, At-kinson-Tombs, and .Martin (nee Lloydilnssell), .Misses .Scaly, Henry, and Iteiil. Mr. Piper and Mi>s Mornn have nlsn ceased to be members of the society. It lias been suggested during the year that the various societies in New Zealand should amalgamate undo:- the Incorporated Societies Act. The council, partlv because if. failed lo sre that any advantage wis lo be gained from the union, and partly on account of the tinsalisfaelnrv re.-uH of tin. last conference (held in "Wellington), decided to withhold its appro, val of the rcheme. The council is glad to have this opportunity of expressing ii..-, pleasure at the Micirss which has so far attended Mr. Maughan Harnett's endeavours to establish a municipal orehe.-tra i:i Wellington. A motion supporting Mr. IJatnrUV. proposals was passed at the last annual meeting, and was iorwarded to the C'il.v Council. The thanks of the sncioty are due to Mr. J,. Herbert Webb (lion, solicitor and trustee), to Mr. J. If. 11. Jack (luni auditor), and io the Arts Club i Incorporated) for kindly giving (he use of their room for fecials.
