The winniiv; team championed (he freehold tenure. •' Mr. P. L. llollings acted a* judge- At the conclusion ol the debate, the visitors were entertained at supper at the Commercial and Farmers' Club. Mr. G. R. Sykes, an Opposition candidate for the Masterton seat, opens his campaign in the Town Hull to-morrow (Wednesday) night. One Masterton farmer has signified his intention of putting down ten acres in maize this season. A young man name<l Eric Smith was thrown from a horse on the Opaki road, near MastPrton, yesterday afternoon, and sustained an injury to his spine. About fifteen hundred fresh claims for enrolment have been received by the Registrar of Electors in Masterton. The work of enrolling is still proceeding. A few early lambs have already made their appearance in the Masterton district: A defence, was yesterday filed in the ease in which .1. J. Kellihcr, law clerk, claims a sum of from the Wairnrapa "Age" Company for alleged libel. The case conies on fcr hearing at the Hiring of the Supreme Court, which opens here on September 11. An ascent of Mount Roldsworth was made on Saturday last by a party of Jlastertonians, comprising Messrs. Raymond Lee, H. Pryor, and W. O'Brien. The track, as far as the snow line, is reported to be in excellent order. Mr. W. F. Massey, Leader of the Opposition, will deliver a political addrpss here on Saturday, August 12No trace has yet been found of the missing man Kiiigdon. Some rather sensational reports are in circulation concerning Kingdon's disappearance, and the police are investigating.
