This tremendous strain of being in the field for the whole of the match, was it is recalled by "Tho Standard," undergone by W. G. Grace when in his forty-seventh year. The contest—between. "Tich" collared it at the time and sent out another bail, so that the match might go on, but. he afterwards gave it to Mr. Gunn, who n6w reckons that the appropriate man to have it is George Giffen. South Australians aro very anxious, and, no doubt, all Australians are res garding the health Of W. J. Whiffy.' He has had to be operated upon three' times in connection with the attack of appendicitis, and it is understood Hint he is now in Sydney.
