PRINTINGS TURF CARD.

A FINE OF £W. IBy Telcßrapli.-Prcss Association.) xChristchurch, .August 1. Sir. H. W. Bishop, S.M., gave his decision to-day in the adjourned case of the police v. Alexander Wildcy, in which defendant was charged with having printed a document containing a notification on behalf of a person on certain horse races to be run. The evidence showed that defendant printed a card giving a bookmaker's odds regarding the Grand National Steeplechase,- Grand National Hurdles, and tho Winter Cup. llr. Cassidy, for the defendant, at the hearing of ■the case cited the case of Barnett v. Bishop, known as the "Daylight wise," the Court on that occasion having held that it was not illegal to print racing information unless some person or club was mentioned in the publication. The card that Wildcy printed did not con-' tain tho name of the person for whom it was printed.

In Riving his decision the magistrate said that tho present ease was clearly distinguishable from the case of Barnett v. Bishop, and ho intended to convict defendant, lie understood that tho Inspector of Police, in his capacity of Justice of the l'cncc, had demanded the production of a duplicate copy of the card, a printer being bound by law to keep such duplicate copy of everything- he printed. Why was it not produced on demand?

Mr. Cassitly replied that ho did hot know; lie had no information on that point. The magistral*: "Very well. Defendant is lined JCIO and costs."
