' « . EXAMINATION FOR ENTRANCE OF CADETS. •
A competitive examination will be held, commencing' on December 5, for candidates to cadetships in the Royal Military College of Australia. The examination will bo the same, and held on the samo date, as the Matriculation examination of New Zealand, with the addition of the following subjects:—'"Mathematics, Division 11, and General Knowledge." Fes for examination is 3 guineas, and payable to the University of New Zealand. Application forms to attend the examinalion may bo procured from Headquarters, Defence, Wellington; District Office, Defence, Palmerston North, Auckland, Christchurch, and Dunedin. No apjdications entertained after October 1. Only candidates , who intend to mako the military forces their profession in life will be admitted to the college as cadets. New Zealand cadets who pass tho final examination at the college will be eligible fpr promotion to the rank of lieutenant in tho New Zealand Staff Corps. To bo eligible for admission to tho college as a cadet,'a candidate must, subject to tho approval of the General Officer Commanding New Zealand Forcss, be:— (a) At tho date of the er.tranco examination and at tho time appointed for joining tho college, bo free from any disease or the effects of any disease, or i'rom anyphysical defects that would lie likely to render him unfit for military service. (b) Unmarried, (c) Be a natural-born British subject, or one whose parents or guardians have resided in New Zealand for one year immediately preceding the date of the entrance-examination, (d) Be in his seventeenth, eighteenth, cr nineteenth year of age—that is to say, his sixteenth birthday must fall on or beforo March 1 in the year in which he joins the college, and his nineteenth birthday must fall after that date. A certified extract from the registor of his birth, or a certificate of his.baptism or other documentary evidence, must be - furnished; also a certificate of good moral character signed by a clergyman of tile (■lace of worship he usually attends, or by the head of the school or college at whicii he has received his education for at least the two previous years. Cadets are allowed actual and necessary travelling expenses botween their parents' or guardians' residences and the college on first joining and on graduation; outfit allowance, «E3O on joining; daily allowance of ss. 6d. to cover cost of uniform and clothing, books, instruments, messing, washing, and other expenses while at tfie co'lege; travelling allowance, 10s. per diem when absent from the college on duty.
