SCHOOLS OF THE EMPIRE.
ANNUAL RIFLE MATCH,
The detailed results of the 1910-19U Schools of tho. Empire Shooting Competitions are announced by the Rational Kitle Association. The total number of schools competing was 81 _as against 99 in the previous year, and of the number, on© was disqualified. Great Britain was repiescnted by 27 schools; Australia by SI:-New Zealand by 13; South Atnca, 12; India, 7; and West Indies by 1. The competition is now classified for senior and junior teams. In tho senior competitions, any competitor under 20 years ot ago mav enter, and in the junior match, any one under 17 may enter, but couinniitors who tire in the senior match aro not allowed to compete in the junior match in tho same year. The targets and scoring are as at Bisloy, t'he figure target being used-, the ranges aro 200 and 500 yards, seven shots at each range (possible 500). The prize in tho senior competition (instituted in 1903) is the Prince of Wales'S Challenge Cup, which may be won outright upon three successive wins. For tho junior match (instituted in 1906) the prize is the Katal Shield. Ivesults (teams of 8):— Total Average. •Auckland Uraramar, after compiling 236' at the first range (200 yards), had to abandon the match at tho longer range (50t) ( yards) owing to a heavy thunderstorm, after aggregating 147.
In the junior competition, won' by Joppes' High School with a total scors of 490. .tho only New Zealand,'competitor was the Auckland Grammar School's B team, which fired on the same day as the A team, and like that team had to abandon the match on account of the weather, after aggregating 3GG (226—140). This team was placed twenty-second in the order of merit.
