JUSTICES AND THE STATUTES.
Sir,—A considerable., portion of the law of .Nov Zealand is administered by Justices of the Peace. Now, for their guidance, the Government have in the past supplied them with the statutes after they were passed each sossion, tho statutes for 1900 were not supplied until .Tune, 1910, or over six months nf.tifr'the session closed. Presumably the J.r.'s were administrating tho law during that six months by that process known as rule of thnrab. Our Liberal .Government has gone on 6 better this time, and up to to-day our local justices have not received a copy of the laws passed last yeari truly it is no wonder that "Justices Justice" is so frequentJy lacking in that legal acumen which ono would expect in such a distinguished body —I am, etc., . . LEX. July 2G.
