It is announced by this week's Gazette that a main channel has been dredged through the Falcon shoal, Wellington harbour, from tho southernmost red buoy on the extension of Hope shoal, south of Ward Island, right across to the blending of tho white and red segments of tho boames Island light, giving a width at this point of 20CO feet, The black and white buoy, with horizontal stripes, carrying a ved light, on the western edge of the Falcon shoal, is to bo moved to the eastern edge of the shoal, where the red and white segments of the Soamos Island light blend. The Gazette also gives notice of proposed alterations of tho inner and outer anchorages of Wellington Harbour, the health officer's examination ground and the explosives anchorage. Further notice is to be given before the proposed changes are made.

Cargo brought ■to Wellington by tho Manuka from Melbourne,. via southern ports, yesterday included the following lines :-59 cases tobacco, 58 ingots tin, 250 boxes butter, 230 bags rice, 180 bags superphosphates, 40 chests tea, 100 bags flonr--150 bags oats, 216 bags onions, 382 cases fruit, and 381 cases fruit, and a, quantity of sundries. The Manuka left for Sydney direct at 5.50 p.m. j-esterday.

It is understood that tho Norwegian barpue Drammenseres, which is now dlscharging a cargo of Tasmanian hardwood, has been purchased by tho Hobart Timber Company. In the event of the purchase being completed, the vessel will fly the red ensign, and will be employed in tho Tasmaniau timber trade.

The Canterbury Steamship Compnnv's steniner Breeze is due at Wellington from south this morning. She leaves for Wangajiui during the afternoon.

To-morrow the Union Company's collier Rakanoa is due at the Bluff from Newcastle. The vessel subsequently visits Duncdin and Wellington.

Mr. C. Hales-West, bte of the Hauroto, is at present in Wellington to eit for his chief engineer's certificate.
