Exhibition Ball. The close of the Exhibition, after ronny weeks of splendid attendances, is at last at hand, and, as on« of the terminating functions, a ball was held in the stadium last evening. A great amount of trouble had been Rone to in preparing it for such a function. Scrim had been tightly plncrd over- the- concrete flooring, and specially treated in order to obtain a slippery surface. The. greater portion of the huge chamber had been closed in with green baize, while, at-one end, palms and little grotto-like erections broke the severity of an uninterrupted smooth surface. Brilliantly-coloured bunting was draped round sonic of the pillars, and, in the centre of the space reserved for the dancers were placed the musicians— M'Laughlin's band. Slipper was served on small tables in a recess curtained off from the other space, the tables looking most attractive with their decorations of spring flowers, and bows of shaded pink ribbon at. each corner. Both supper, and the arrangements in connection with it, were by Mr. J. Godber.

Among those present were Jlrs. Ballinger, wearing black satin with jet embroideries;, ilrs. Partridge, black silk; Sirs. J. P. Wilson, pink satin with chiffon overdress; Miss 'Watson, palo blue frock; Mrs. Norwood, white satin; Miss Hcli-er, black silk; Mrs. A. Newton, black satin with overdress of soquinod net. Mr. and Jlrs. Wang were also among those present, as wpre.several of (lie members of the Exhibition Committee.

An Afternoon Tea. " On Thursday afternoon, Mrs. Francis Stevens, of Oriental Bay, gave a "girls' W in honour of her niece! Hiss Tibbits, of Melbourne. The drawing and diningrooms were sot apart for the guests, tho former being prettily decprated with white azaleas and spring (lowers. The diningroom, where tea wus served was decorated by Misses Charlesivorth ami Tibbits with the yellow wattle (out of compliment to Miss Tibbits); Among the guests were: Mrs. Charlesworth, Mrs. Jelly, and tho Misses Hurley (2), Charlcsworth, Meek (2), Clarke (3), Dcvine, Stevens, Kixoii (2), Hals 3 (2), Gell;"Greonwood, aud Blow. Music, recitations, niM friendly . chat brought n pleasant afternoon to a close about 5.30. The Poster Ball. Arrangements iu connection 'with the poster ball, to take place in tlio Town Hall on August 3, are going on most satisfactorily. A great many posters—fifty at least—are being entered, and very mn.ny handsome prizes are beiaig donated for the different competitions. Prizes aro being given for the best poster, for tho best one representing photography, for the one best carried out, for the. most original lady, and tho most original gentleman poster, for tho prettiest calico dress, and for the- prettiest fancy dress. These are only 'some of those which are being competed for. The trophies will bo on exhibition in Messrs. Litljcjolm's window shortly. Altogether, indications point to the fact that tho ball is going to bo a success.

Wellington Harriers' Dance. The fifth annual dance of the Wellington Harriers was held in St. Peter js Hall last evening, aud was a very enjoyablo affair. Tho hall had been-specially decorated for tho occasion, and very good music provided for tho dancers. Tho committee- who. had arrangements in hand, was formed by Messrs. W. B. Bennett, E. O'Neill, P. I'inekney, aud F. Hollo, while Mr. F. AVilton was secretary. A musical evening has been arranged for to-night at tho Pioneer Club-by Miss Beatrice Richmond. Haydn's "Toy Symphony," with eleven performers, and one of Liza Lehniann's song cycles arc- among tho interesting events of tho evening. Mrs. Bey (Greytown) is a' visitor to Wellington.
