July 2". 6.5 p.m.) Sydney, July 27. • A motor-car, containing throo passengers and a driver, plunged into tlio Himtor River near Muswellbrook. The passongors, Mrs. Barrington, (Udermnu Mackay, of Enfield, and Mr. Flavor, manager of tlio Tindalo Company at Mussellbrook, wero drowned. Tho driver esoaped. The party were returning from Merriwa Into nt night in the dark, and wero twelve miles fropi Muswellbrook, at a spot where the road runs close to tho river bank. •; The motor ran off ,and plunged, into 1 the flooded river, forty .feet below. Tho chauffeur, Mr. Sucss, was thrown clear of tho car, and washed several hundred yards down tho river. Ho mnnagedi to lid himself of his overcoat, and scrambled ashore. Mrs. Harrington's body lias been lxv covered. She was a prominent worker itt the liberal cause in Victoria and New South Wales, n,nd was touring tlio district as organiser for Hie Liberal League. Mr. Mackay was an cj-Mayor of Enfield, and a well-known carcass butcher. Mr. Flavoy Was manager of tho Tindalo Company at Muswellbrook. Suess was a stranger to the district, and was unaware that the floods had scooped out a portion of the road, necessitating a deviation, lie followed tho old road, and plunged across a gap into tliiiTy feet of water.
