Robert Hutchinsou, son of a Manchester cotton-spinner, who is charged with forgery, makes a remarkable defence, alleging that he is the innocent victim of an ex-convict, M'Kenzio, a member of a skilful band of forgers. , Hutchinson was actively engaged in political work, and received cheques from well-known people in aid of the Tariff Reform propaganda. Ji'Kenzie (since dead) acted as Hutchinson's treasurer, and it is alleged that he utilised small cheques to oxecuto forgeries of the signatures of well-known persons for larger 6ums.
