Br I'elecrarh-Press Associatlon-CoDyrlehl London, July 25. From Edinburgh to-day's flight resolved itself into a contest between MM. Vedrines and Beaumont. They, reached Carlisle, via Stirling and Glasgow, close together.

M. Valentine was detained at Stirling by a broken propeller. The other aviators were hopelessly in the rear, through various machine mishaps. "

M. Beaumont, with a magnificent flight, reached Manchester first, M. Vedrines coming in half an hour later.

M. Vedrines occupied Bhr. s!)min., including stops, in covering tho distance from London to Edinburgh, 363 miles. M. Beaumont's time was 7hr. 18min. The train record is 7hv. ISmin.

M. Valentine, the only other competitor to arrive at Edinburgh, took 12hr. 15min„ including a rest of four hours at Newcastle. THE LEADERS AT BRISTOL. (Reo. July 27, 0.5 a.m.) London, July 26. M. Beaumont left Edinburgh at 3.10 a.m. yesterday, and arrived at Bristol (383 ,miles) at 8.37 p.m. M. Vedrines left at 3.25 a.m., and arrived at 0 p.m., but landed half a mile from tho aerodrome, which was reached at'lo.lo p.m. M. Beaumont is now leading by 65 minutes.

The aviators course from Brooklands to Edinburgh totals 358 miles. There aro three fast railway routes from London to Edinburgh, the distances being variousv>»j «1, and 106 miles. In August, 1888, an express over tho London and North-western and Caledonian route covered the distance in 7 hours 38 minutes, or at an average speed of 52.4 miles per hour.
