SUGAR STRIKE.
OVER 5,000 MEN STOP WORK. By Telecrapb-Press Association-Copyrisht Sydney, July '-5. Messrs. Collins and Kyland, Labour members of tho Queensland Parliament, are proceeding to Melbourne in tho interests of tho sugar strikers. They stato that there are 5000 men in the slriko camps, and there will probably be 7000 at the end of next week. This does not represent the total, as in Bundabers alone there are 100, who are better off, stopping in hotels. The reasons leading to the strike were that the men in the fields had to work SO hours a week, and in the mills 70 hours. The wages were 225. Cd. a week ami food. FREE LABOUR TO LOAD VESSELS. Brisbane, July 25. ' The Adelaide Steam Ship Company is instructing its Mackay, Townsville, and Cairns representatives to engage free labour to load sugar, guaranteeing three months' employment at union rates and conditions.
