HEPPLE FUND-STORMY MEETING
NEW SECBETABY. A rather stormy meeting of the He.pple Fund Committee was held at Lower Hntt last evening. JFr. E. P. Bnnny, who presided, said that the. meeting had been convened on account of what had transpired during last week, anil also nn account r,f JIY. Readn tollins! the public to "stop eiving." This was the only public committee appointed to deal with the Jlcpple Fund, and, on behalf of it. ho had notified the public that there was no authority to announce "stop siying." He was not looking for any credit in the matter, nor did he wish to make it a personal affair, but, a proper status would have to bo established. AVhen the committee had first been appointed, it had been resolved that an. endeavour should l>o made to collect a sum of ,£2OOO. and that the subscription list should be closed on .Inly 31. Tho speaker then proceeded to read letters from several subscribers and workers to the fund regarding the manner in which Jlr. Ceado had spoken to them. Mr. Ueade denied the. statements made, and I hi- meeting became rather healed! and, at times even uproarious. The motion of .Mr. 1 , . (.'.
