MASTERTON NOTES.

(From Our Special Correspondent.) Mastcrton, July 23. It is stated that the examination of certain dairy herds by J'r. Edwards, Government veterinarian, has resulted in the discovery of cow:; affected with tuberculosis. At a meeting of the Finance Committee of the Wairarapa Charitable Aid Board on Saturday it was decided to call fresh tenders on modified plans for ths erection of the Home for Incurables at Greytown. Mr.. A. W. Hogg, M.P., returned last night from a health-recruiting trip to Hotorun. Considerable amusement has lieen" caus-* ed locally through the council of the Mastcrton Chamber of Commerce having passed a resolution as a remit to the Kmniro Congress in London expressing a sanguine hope that other Powers will join in tho Anglo-American arbitration treaty. Sixty new members were, elected to the Wairarapa Caledonian Society yesterday. Masterton, July 21. . Slips have occurred on the Blairlogio Road between Carswclls and Seven Oaks, and the Castle Hill ftoad, Allredton, necessitating the closing of roads to wheel traffic. Heavy- rain. has handicapped winter ploughing. Sheds have been unroofed, and fences broken by falling trees. The rivers are in high flood. The rainfall since Saturday totals 2.32 inches. A meeting of sheep-owners t'o-day decided not to depart from the rate customary in the district for shearing sheep, viz., 20s. per hundred; 10s. Oil. per hundred for lambs.
