IMPROVING THE SERVICE,
Tho proposed scheme formulated by the Wellington Chamber of Commerce tor expediting the delivery of the Suez mail at {ho various centres in New Zealand b> arramriiiK for tlie dispatch ot a bydneyWellington steamer immediately upon tuc arrival of the Suez boat, and distributing the mails Irom Wellington, was mentioned at the meeting of tho Council of hio Chamber yesterday, when it was reported that in reply to questions submitted to tho various Chambers in Uie Dominion seventeen had expressed themselves as being in favour 01 tho scheme; Auckland and Thames approved, with the reservation that the Auckland-Sydney service should not be prejudiced; while Duneum, in favour of tlio scheme, was of opinion that the time was not yet ripe for the initiation of a service whicn would involve a considerable outlay. fl The council decided upon the next step in furtherance of its proposal, namely, correspondence with Jhe l;nion Steam Ship Company and the Huddart-Parkei Company.
