To-day all the Ministers will bo in town with tho exception of the Hon. J. A. Millar, who is returning from Dunedin.
The Acting-Primo Minister (Sir James Carroll) returned from Waahi, Auckland, yesterday afternoon.
Mr. Basil Jones, the well-known manager of the I'rimley Canning Company, is at present paying a short visit to Wellington.
Mr. James Craigie, who has been n prominent member of the Wellington Painters' Union tor cloven yeaTs past, is to be entertained this evening on the ovo of his departure for Melbourne.
At the conclusion of the annual general mating ot the Institute of Marine Engineers yesterday a very pleasant function was held, when Mr. William I'erguson, M.1.C.E., life honorary associate, was presented by the chairman \*ith the gold emblem of the institute, suitably inscribed.
Mr. Percy Helmoro, representing Thcs. Cook and Hon at Christcluirch and Dunodin, is at present on a visit to Wellington.
His Warship the Mayor (Mr. T. M. Wilfonl) is now able to leave his bed for a few hours daily. ITe hopes to be well and strong enough to attend his office next week.
Mr. W. IF. Cook, engineer to tho Potone norougli Council, who is joining tho Hastings liorough Couucil in a similar capacity, was, at the council meeting last evening, granted a bonus of .(.'SO in token ot his past, services to the borough. Mr. Cook's work was tho subject of highly complimentary references by tho Mayor and councillors at. (he. couucil table.
Mr. A. Cowie, who succeeds Mr. AV. It, Cook as borough engineer at Petono, attended tho council meeting last evening, and was cordially welcomed.
