WELLINGTON ROWING CLUB.

ANNUAL REPORT.

The twenty-sixth annual report of the Wellington IJowing Club states that the net increase in membership during the year was i, 13 resignations being accepted, and 17 neiv members elected. The committee' state that the plant is. in failorder, and. owing to the increased interest shown by members in sculling eveuts, an order had been given to Mr.- G.. Norton, of Wellington,- for four , ' scullers—hvo senior and two junior. Other boats on order are two junior convertible pairoared and double scullers and one pleasure boat. The committee trusts that this large increase' in- the plant will be appreciated by members, and that- members will assist their officers in meeting tho heavy financial responsibility incurred. ■' : ' .. .

A- regrettable feature of the season was. the non-success of club representatives at Hie various 'regattas. Crews competed .it Picton, Wellington, and JCnpier resattas, but failed to win one ovent. The reason was not far to seek, time after time the crews held the leading position in the early part of a race, but failed at the business end through sheer lack of the condition necessary to carry a crew to victory.in a hard-fo'nght contest. The remedy was obvious, and the incoming officers must , see that a change was effected next season.

A lengthy programme of club races was provided for the season, but tlio entries in many events were- short of expectations, and if greater interest is not taken in these events, the incoming committee will have to consider a revision of the programme- for next season. Tho tcnair bill during the season was very heavy. The skids were badly damaged, and a considerable sum was spent in putting them in order, in addition to this, the shed was painted and repaired generally.

Thanks are extended to Messrs. >T. 0. W. Aitkert, W. J. Nidd. and W. .1. Gnudin for tlonntinns, to Mr. J. Hutrheson, who presented a club flag; to Mr. E. Morris, who presented n cup for a. ladder competition among the junior members. This event was not on the programme last season owing to shortage of plant, but with the new junior boats coming to hand, should be a popular race next season. . . The statement of receipts and expenditure shows a credit balance of' M 7s. fid., and the balance of assets over liabilities is .£sll 15s.
