STRIKES IN AUSTRALIA.
INCENDIARISM SUSPECTED. By Telesrapli- -Fr:ss Association-Oopyrlehl Brisbane, July 23. Three fires occurred amongst sugar-cane buildings at Hambkdon, hut the damage was not eerious. Incendiarism is suspected. Two strikers have been fined for assaulting a free labourer.
The whole of the hands at the Mi: laquin refinery havo leit work.
Work is proceeding in a number ol centres with tho assistance of farmers, clerks, and other permanent hands.
At the conclusion of a Cabinet meeting the Premier stated that the strike had reached a stago lor serious consideration, but not warranting Government intervention. THE LITHGOW DISPUTE. Sydney, July 22. Messrs. Hoskins, proprietors of tho Lithgow Ironworks, have asked Mr. J. S. J3ceby, Minister for Labour, to act as mediator in the Lithgow strike. They havo accepted Mr. Beeby's suggestion to reinstato all the men on the conditions oxisting at the time of suspension of work, pending arbitration on the claim for increased pay. Tho men are to start work on Monday morning.' STRIKE AT PORT KEMBLA. Sydney, July 22. The employees of the Electrolytic Company at Port Kembla have struck, as a protest against the removal of an employee. Three hundred men are idle. (Rec. July 21, 1.5 a.m.) Sydney, July 23. The negotiations for arbitration by Mr. Beeby, Minister for Labour, in the Lithgojw trouble have pioved futile.
