(From Our Special Correspondent.) 0 FIRE BRIGADE REPORT. The annual report of Petone Firo Brigade is as follows:—During tho year the brigade received 14 calls, 13 to fires, and one false alarm, the only one that could bo called serious being at Price's Sawmills, which were completely destroyed. The total loss by fire was J21494 10s„ and there was a saving of property to the value of ,£11,351. The brigade is hampered at its practice by the smallness of the station, and it is to bo trusted that the time is not far away wlien we shall have a new and more convenient building. At the annual "social" tho following wero presented with honours-.—Five years' medal, Fireman S. Chick; two-year bars, Superintendent Lepper, DeputySuperintendent Ryder, Foreman Shardlow, Firemen Turner, Shardlow, and Selwood'i three-year certificates, * Firemen May, Chick, and Guthrie. The conduct and attendance of members lias been excellent, there being an average attendance at each muster of 121 out of 17 officers and firemen. The brigade tenders its congratulations to Fireman Godber on his winning two first prizes out of three at the last essay competition of the United Fire Brigades' Association. THAT RURAL COURSE. The Petone District High School Committee (by resolution on Friday evening) resolved to invite the West School Committee to attend the conference witli the Education Board to-night, in respect to tlio proposed rural courso for Petone. HUTT BOWLS AND TENNIS CLUB. Tho following is a summary of tlio eighth report to bo submitted to tho annual meeting of the Lower liutt Bowling arid Tennis Club next WednesdayTho club, favoured by a long season and admirablo condition of tho green, had every opportunity for play of which members availed themselves freely. The club's representatives wero very successful in tho tournaments held at Wellington, Auckland, and Otaki. In tho club competitions tho honours wero secured by Messrs. C. Hollard (senior championship), E. Johnson (junior), W. Hendry and D. M'Konzio (pairs), nnd Mrs. Wagg sceurcd the ladies' tennis championship. Tho tennis players had shown lack of interest in tho gamo'this season, and the finances of this department were unsatisfactory, outstanding subscriptions being out of all proportion to tho number of players. • During tho year the olnb had sustained the loss by 'death of two members— Messrs. E. .T. Riddiford and W. F. Parsons—and also of its valued caretaker, Mr. C. Edwards. The club had benefited by donations from Messrs. G. Allport, 0. Stevens, .T. Sinclair, and W. Callender. Special thanks wero duo to tlio Ground Committee, Messrs. Trevelhick and Hollard, and to tho gentlemen who assisted j them, also to tho press. Special business, to bo considered at this evening's meeting of tho l'etono Borough Council, will lie tho adoption of bylaws regulating tho sale of milk in tlio borough. Councillor Cox has also given notice that ho will move:—"That a. Library Committee bo appointed, consisting of Councillors List, Piper, and tho mover."
