Labour Commission it was disclosed in evidence that tho Lithgow Ironworks had recently refused a JE50,000 contract through inability to secure hands. Other witnesses deposed that orders had gone to Germany and elsewhero from tho same cause. GOVERNMENT JOBS SOUGHT. (Rec. July 21, 9.25 p.m.) Sydney, July 21. In giving evidence before the Labour Commission to-day the Chief Engineer for Harbours and Water Supply stated that he had experienced no shortage either of skilled or unskilled labour. Tho workers, liowevor, liked Government jobs. A hat manufacturer ■ stated that although he was paying £S a week, lie was unable to get men. If he imported men from England they would have to pay £20 to join the union.
