WHAT CHANGE IS DESIRABLE? (By Tclciraph—Press Association.) New Plymouth, July 21. A sub-committoo of tho New Plymouth Harbour. Board appointed at last meeting to consider amendment of the present harbour board legislation reported to-day recommending alternately as follows:— Firstly that the alterations in law effected by tho passing of the Harbours Amendment Act (in so far as such alterations affect the constitution, representation, and election of members of boards, bo repealed, and that the provisions of tho Harbours Act, 190S, relating to same, and repealed by tho nmending Act of I'JIO, bo reenacted. Or, secondly, that the first schedulq to tho Harbours Amending Act of imO be repealed, and two new schedules substituted—lho first to ctiibraco sucli boards as prefer to ruiiinm under tho amending Act of 1910 (wUh such modifications as to representation, etc., as they may require), the second to embrace boards who prefer to remain under the Act of 1908, and that Clause 30 of the main Act be re-enacted. Tho second recommendation was adopted, and will bo conveyed to the Minister lor Marine, and to the Harbours Association as a remit, with a request that a couferenco bo held as early as possib.o. to consider tho question.
