, EXAMINATIONS-SUCCESSFUL . CANDIDATES. General orders by Major-General A. J. Godley, C.8., commanding the New Zealand 'forces, include the following announcements:— Major G. N. Johnston, R.G.A., director of ordnance, and Captain H. O. Knox, director of supplies and transport, are granted temporary rank as lieutenantcolonel aud major respectively while employed in the New Zealand forces. The following officers of the New Zealand Garrison Artillery have been appointed coast defence commanders:— Auckland, Colonel G. W. S. Patterson; Canterbury, Colonel J. Cooper, V.D.; Otago, Colonel James Allen; Wellington, Colonel G. F/ C. Campbell, V.D. Major Joseph Lyons, New Zealand Veterinary Corps, is appointed principal veterinary officer at Auckland.
The following officers in the Wellington military district have passed the written portion of their qualifying examinations for commissions in the New Zealand Ter : ritorial Forces, held in May last:—Captain Porteous, Lieutenant Copeland, Lieutenant Hood (Wanganui), Captain Skey, Lieutenant Hart (Greytown), Lieutenant Feaver (Waverley), Lieutenant JoII, Lieutenant Wilson (New Plymouth), Captain Elmslio, Lieutenant Johnston (Waverley), Captain Levin, Lieutenant Dick (Palmerston North), Lieutenant Hollis, Lieutenant Matthews, Lieutenant. Oram, Lieutenant Rose, Lieutenant M'Quarrie, Lieutenant Cooper, Captain Bevan (Wellington), Lieutenant Boon (New Plymouth), Captain Morton, Lieutenant Keenan, Lieutenant Hamilton, Lieutenant Mee, Lieutenant Wilkinson, Lieutenant Evatt, Lieutenant Bolton, Lieutenant Gasquoine, Captain Martin, E. E. J. (Wellington), Lieutenant Penlington, W. A. G. (Gisborne), Lieutenant Chambers, S. (Napier).
