ELECTRIC TRAM-DRIVERS.

CERTIFICATE" EXAMINATIONS. The regulations governing the issue of certificates oE qualifications to drivers of electric trams are published in last night's Gazette. Applicants for examination, -it is laid down, shall be required to pass in the following subjects:—(a) Au elementary knowledge of the construction, nature, and relation of those-parts of au electric tramcar. through whioh the electric current pases, including the trollyconnections, controller, and motors; (l>) ■knowledge of the use, nature, and mode of working of magnetic air, and other brakes used on electric tramcars; (c) the ordinary working of electric tramears, including, ability to remedy simple defects occurring iu tho coarse of working; (d) a slight test, including ability to distinguish colours; (e) a practical test in elcctric-trnui driving. In addition, every candidate must satisfy the examiner that ho can read and write tho English language. If necessary, examinations for electrictram drivers' certificates shall bo held at Auckland, Wangamii, Napier, 'Wellington, Christchurcb, Dunedin. and In-voi-cargill, commencing on the first weekday of tho months of _ February, May, August, and November in each year, and also at Mich other times and places as the Board of Examiners directs. Examinations may bo either written or oral and practical, or partly written and partly oral and practical, as the Board of Examiners from time to time directs or authorises.
