To-day all Ministers ate expected to bo in Wellington. Tho Hon. K. M'Kcnzio is expected to return to Wellington to-day. With reference to a Sydney cable, stating that Sir John Kirk, Director of tho Ragged Schools' Union, was coming to Now Zealand, with a view to placing a number of boys in employment here, the Rev. J. H. -Mackenzie, of Nelson, New Zealand representative of the union, states that tho object of Sir John Kirk's visit was erroneously stated. Tho union is not an immigration organisation, and Sir John Kirk comes to enlist sympathy and help for its efforts among tho poor children of London.—Press Association. Jlr. W. H. Cook, who has resigned tho position of I'etono Borough Engineer in order to take, up a similar position at Hastings, was entertained at the Pctone Commercial Club last evening, by a number of friends, who seized the occasion to make Mr. Cook a presentation. The dinner to bo tendered to tho Irish envoys by tho Hibernian Society on Thursday next will tako place in tho Concert Chamber, Town Hall, not St. Patrick's College as previously arranged. Dr. Cosgrove, of Sydney, who has been on a visit to America, arrived from San Francisco by (ho Aorangi yesterday. Ho goes on to Sydney to-day. Sir. James ll'Dougall, of "Brougham' House," Elliee Street, who has been in ill-health for romc time, past, will undergo an operation in the Davis Street Private Hospital to-day. Mr. It. Douglas Fry, tho well-known animal painter, died at Neutral Bay, Sydney, last week, after a brief illness, at the age of :i!l years. Jlr. Fry arrived in Australia from England a few years ago. The trouble for which Mr. YV. 11. .Tudkins, of Melbourne, underwent a severe, surgical operation has recurred, and his condition is pronounced to be serious. He has been compelled to cancel all platform and pulpit fixtures in order to afford him every possible chance of recuperating.

Captain Thomas Logan, years ago a prominent figure in the trade between Melbourne and New Zealand, and master of the Mannpouri, died at his home at Elstornwick, Melbourne, last Thursday week. For several years before joining Ihe Union Company, in 1878, he was in the employ of Messrs. Grice, Sumner, and Co., having command of the tug Hero. Captain Logan leaves a widow, but no family. Jlr. Noel P. Adams, of Nelson, was admitted as a barrister and solicitor of tho Supreme Court of New Zcalind ves-'erdnv by the Chief Justice (Sir Robert Stout), on tho motion of Mr. W. 11. 1). Hell. \\v. Adams is an English barrister, now resident in Nelson. Mr. L. F. Cockroft, general passenger agent for tho. Oceanic Company, was a passenger by the Aovangi from San Francisco to Papeete. Mr. AVin. Falconer is gazetted assistant meat inspector in (he Department of Agriculture. Messrs. T. P. James and E. 11. Pavitt arc gazetted deputy registrars of births, marriages, and deaths at Stratford and Gisborno respectively. Mr. A. D. Clemett has bec.i appointed Superintendent of Mercantile Marino at Foxtou. Mr. Frank Evans has been appointed deputv-chief electoral officer for New Zealand. This week's Gazette announces the fact that Senir Don Mario Pinies y Bayona. has been appointed Consul of Spain at Melbourne, with jurisdiction in tho Commonwealth of Australia and the Dominion of New Zealand. The appointments of Captain lan Macdougall (Grenadier Guards), and Mr. A. C. Day, as aide-de-camp and assistant private secretary respectively to his Excellency the Governor are gazetted.
