N.Z. PRODUCERS' ASSOCIATION

ITS OBJECTS. • The question of an Act that was now before tho House of Commons came up for discussion at the Producers' Conference yesterday, in connection with the Mercantile Marks Act. It was stated that the conference understood that the Act provides for all imported meat into England to bo sold as foreign. It was decided to communicate with Mr. Shelton (London representative), and ask him to watcu the matter there, and should there lie a prospect of it being made law this session, to endeavour to have a distinction made between New Zealand produce and foreign produce. The committee appointed by tho conference to settle the objccts of the association conclude dits sitting this morning, when tho following were agreed to; — (1) To impress upon the Port of London Authority the necessity for modern'sing and improving tho methods of handling and storing New Zealand produce, and to provide better berthage accommodation, unloading facilities, and cold storage at the Koiith-West India Dock. (2) To urge the Smithfield Market authority to provide additional cold storage, and to have improved facilities for handling produce to and from the market. (3) To secure the abolition of allowances on frozen meat and wool.

(i) To collect data and information in regard to the best system of marketing tlio produce of -the Dominion in the United Kingdom, or in any other country, whethpr grain, dairy produce, frozen meat, or other agricultural or pastoral products, and to disseminate such information among tho producers.
