PALMERSTON DAY BY DAY.
(From Our Scecial Correspondent.) Palmerston, July IS. The monthly meeting of the _ High School Board of Governors was held last night, Mr. W. 11. Collingwood (chairman) presiding. Mr. W. fiutherfurd submitted his new scheme for tho working of the Technical School, and, after discussion, it was dccided to abolish the special Technic. School Committee, and Mr. Itutherfurd's - suggestion that tho High School Board should be the controlling body was adopted. This also provides for the appointment of representatives from all contributing bodies and associations subscribing .£'s and over. Tho rector (Mr. J. E. Vernon) reported the total roll to be 11)1 (121 boys and 73 girls) with an average attendance of ISO. The monthly examination proved satisfactory. The college house, had been enlarged, and was now capable of accommodating over thirty boarders. The director of the Technical School, Mr. F. D. Opie, reported that the enrolments for the current quarter were 124, this being a slight incrcaso on the same quarter of the previous year. Individual students now attending w6re iiSO, as against 370 last year. The total weekly enrolments are 720. Fourteen Technical School candidates sat for the recent South Kensington examinations, The local Court of Foresters met last nigh), Bro Weir, C.H., presiding. The quarterly balance-sheet showed the court to be in a sound condition. The veterinary instructor of the Technical School, Mr. Quiunell, M.H.C.V.S., gave a practical illustration of dissecting work to his class yesterday afternoon, a condemned horse being killed and disseeled. The Commissioner for (he Wellington District Scouts. Mr. W. Gray, accompanied by Mr. M'Leod, district secretary, visited Falmerston yesterday, and met. the local committee. The visitors gave some valuable hints as to the working of the movement, and a sub-commitVoe, comprising Messrs. M. A. Eliott, E. D. Hoben, and the liev. H. G. Ro.-cher. was appointed to consult with the headmasters of the various schools, a.ud report on tho progress of (he movement in the primary schools. A musical monologue has been added to the programme in the next musical and elocutionary competitions, which are (o bo held under the auspices of the Palmerston Technical School,
