ASSESSMENT COURT.

Dr. A. M'Artlmr, S.M., presided at a sitting of tlio Assessment Court for the Hutt District, held at tho Magistrate's Court yesterday afternoon, and Messrs. G. Cmlby nnd C. Harper sat with him as assessors. Mr. F. N. Martin, District Valuer, represented the Department. .. Mr. 11. Baldwin appeared in support of an objection to the value of ,£2OOO placed on tho Hutt Park. Hβ contended that the park being a public reserve waa not rateable. It was held under the Public Reserves Act, and governed' bj that Act. ; Mr. Martin explained that on a decision of, Mr. Justice Cooper, the park was rateable on its capitalised revenue. The, valuation was sustained. Mr. A. Fair appeared in support of an objection to Mr. C. F. Reeves being cited as owner of an area of land adjoining tho Hutt Park. Mr. Reeves had as yet no title, and it was likely would not get one. After hearing all that counsel had to sJoy on tho matter, his Worship decided that tho objection must be upheld.
