IBj TflJegrilih.—Soerial Correspondent.) Mastcrton, July IS. Mr. Goo. R. Sylccs, Opposition candidate for the Masterton seat, opens his campaign with an address at Masterton, on August 3. In its annual renort the retiring committee of tho Masterton A. and P. Association referred to, the success of tho initial show held on tho Solway showgjonnds, the outstanding feature of which was the splendid exhibition of rat cattle and fat sheep; The membership of tho association now stands at 835—an increase of 113 ;on the previous year. Field competitions, in the growth of turnips, had been held during the year, but the mangold competition was (on account of the unfavourable weather) a failure. The report also refers to the satisfactory character of tho balance-sheet. ,

Mrs. Barclay, of Waikanae, has presented tho Masterton Competitions Society with a silver rose bowi ;for competition among tho choirs.
