WELLINGTON BOYS' INSTITUTE
The attendance at the boys' gospel =ervico at the Boys' Institute on tiunday nights is being stimulated by a iriemily contest for members between the "Husy Bees" and ■ the "Independents." The latter winning last Sunday evening led to extending tho contest to other departments ot tho work. A challenge to a basket-ball contest from the "Bees" was eagerly accepted by tho "Independents," each side playing two teams. The games took place last Tuesday. The result was one win and one loss for each side, so another contest is to be held this week. The junior department also has its two sides, and is increasing the attendance at tho Friday meeting?. Miss Eoe has accepted the position of hon. pianist for both services. Tho cadet parades aro being well attended, and it is hoped to eater a physical drill team for tho competitions/ The night school is making good progress under 3lr. Hopkirk and his staff of hon. teachers. The Boy Scouts are busily engaged getting ready for examinations. The usual weekly serial night is becoming very popular. Mr. Probert gave an illustrated lecture on South Africa last week, which was very entertaining as well as instructive. The games room is well filled on each games night. The Association Football Club are having a. fairly successful season, and two of the four teams are in the Tunning for championship honours. Thn club hopes to entertain tho Marlborough representatives this week. Employment is being found for boys out of work; and boys, whether members or not. may register with the general secretary any morning from 10 to 12 for employment in town or country. No fee is asked.
