On tho motion of tho Mayor, it was resolved that tho premises referred to bo not used itiitil the works specified by tho District Health Ullicor arc completed to the satisfaction of the engineer, Tho District Health Officer also wrote forwarding correspondence with reference to three houses m Grey Street belonging to a trust estate. Same objection was raised in tho latter case, and tho Mayor said tile alternative to carrying out tho Health Officer's recommendations was to liavo plaguo in. the city. It was largely owing to tho nlthy conditions of such houses that the city i was getting a bad reputation. It was tho council's duty to too that tho old rookeries in the town were wiped out. It might .be said that getting rid of 30 or 40 buildings was rather a big order, but he did not think tho council were doing a bit 100 much, the matter was deferred. '
