Mr. W. H. Tlie chairman stated that recently the Mayor and councillors of Foxton • had visited Shannon and were favourably impressed with tho source of supply. Councillor Stepheiison stated that Foxton would undoubtedly go in for tho scheme if Shannon did not, and it would be to Shannon's advantage to get an estimate of tho cost. Ho suggested that an expert should bo engaged who oould give them the approximate cost. In the speaker's opinion it should bo controlled by a local body. Councillor Venn expressed tho opinion that delegates should be appointed to meet the Foxton Council and arrange what proportion of cost Shannon should bear. It had been suggested that Foxton should bear 'two-thirds of tho cost and Shannon one-third, which would mean (if they, rated tho town area, which is valued at .£8000), a rate of ljd., and if the town and suburbs, whoso rated value is about .£IO,OOO, a Id. rate. Somebody would have to guarantoo tho preliminary expenses, which would amount to about .£SO. Councillor Stephenson thought that a report on the head-works was all that was necessary at present, and Councillor Venn considered that it was necessary to ascertain how much it would cost to bring tho water to Shannon township. Tho chairman stated that ho thought that a water supply would make a considerable diilcrenco tq. the fire rate. Mr. J. W. Murray promised to furnish a report on the lire rate at next meeting. Mr. Si \V. Carter then moved, and Mr. Murray seconded: "That delegates be appointed to meet the Foxton people and to arrange a preliminary survey, and to report to a further meeting." The following delegates were chosen:— Messrs. Venn. Stephenson. Gunning, Carter, and Moynihan. Mr. Murdoch was appointed secretary to tho delegates. The hydro-electric scheme for Shannon was then discussed, and Sir. Murdoch was asked to make arrangements to interview the Hon. R. M'Kenzio at Levin ou July 21. , The feeling of the meeting with reference to ratine for the new Foxton harbour scheme was then taken.
