It was decided that certain roadmen !>o appointed inspectors under tlio wheel-tyro bv-hiusof the county. ~ , , _ On Mondav last the residents of Longbush, Gladstone, and surrounding districts waited ii(Kin Mr. John Strang, at his homestead at Glenside, and presented him with a purse of sovereigns on the eve of his departure for the Old Country, as au indication of appreciation his qualities as a settler and neighbour. Mr. Strang, who was taken by surprise, suitably acknowledged the gift. 110 was also , tho recipient of a handsome gold watch, presented by a number of personal admirers. The interment of the late Mr. James Hanley took place at the Masterton cemetery yesterday afternoon. The cortege included a large, number of lorostors and members of the Fire Brigade. The service at the graveside was conducted by the Rev. Father Harnett, the Foresters seivice being wad by Bro. Candy. It has beeu remarked that the only resident of the Ekotahuna district to contribute to the ''George" fund was a Gorman bv nationality. In the evening a meeting of gun club men will bo held, when it is hoped to re-form the Mas. terton club. The Masterton County Council day Approved plans for the sub-division of the Matahiwi Estate, near Masterton. At its meeting on Tuesday* the Masterton County Council decided to apply to the- Government for road and bndge grants approximating to about ,€4OOO.
