EASTBOURNE AFFAIRS.
A SCHEME OP TREE-PLANTING. Tko Eastbourne Borough Council met yesterday, there boing present: The 'Mayor (Mr. H. W. Shortt), and Councillors Organ, Baunatrue, Harcourt, Morison, "W ills, Pilchcr, l?oss, and Button. ; It was decided to -have a special meeting of tho council convened for 12' noon on Monday next, to cousider the steps neccssary to bring tho borough under tho provisions of tho Noxious Weeds Act. ■ On tho motion of Councillor Organ, the council decided to. contribute to tho Hutt Park Committee a sum proportionate .to' tho rateablo value of tho borough, towards tho upkeep of the park. The (own cleric submitted a report cohering a suggested scheme of tree-planting for the borough. According to the report, liona Bay Esplanade, Fabian Street and the Main Road, were to he planted as far as funds might permit, tho trcoo to be Norfold Island pine and Pohaukntawa, planted at intervals of CO feet. Tho estimated cost oi each was sot down at lis. (including material, soil, tree, and labour), or ,£GS for 100, and triangular jarrah guards, netted, aro to ho provided. Tho report was adopted, ami it was decided that tho work bo put in hand at once. It was also decided to plant 20 willow trees in the borough, at, suitable places.
