(By Telegraph— Special Correspondent.* 4 MARTON. Mr. Frederick Hunt, the victim of the motor-car accident on Monday evening last on Lambton Quay, was a well-known and respected resident of Marton, where, for years, he followed the occupation of nurseryman nud landscape gardener. In tho latter branch of his occupation he acquired a wide reputation for the thoroughness and excellence or his work— a reputation which in time created a demand for his services. Some thirty years ago the deceased took up his abode in Rangitikci, first settling at Bulls, and subsequently at Marton, where he made many friends. Deceased was a. member of tho Lodge Buapehu (Masonic) for many years, and at times filled the position of member of tho Marton liorough Council. As showing the respect in which the late Mr. Hunt was held, it might be mentioned that telegrams of condolence have been received from all parts of the Dominion, these including one from Sir James Carroll, Acting-Primo Minister. , SHANNON. Mr. F. M. B. Fisher, M.P., will deliver n political address in tho Druids' Hall, Shannon, next Saturday. There was a good attendance of members of the Debating Society on Tuesday night at the Druids' Hall, when the subject of discussion was "That the Refcrenduin Should Bo Tart of the Political Machinery nf Every State." In tho unavoidable absence of Mr. Murray, his seconder, Mr. Murdoch, led off in tho affirmative. Mr. Selby opposed the motion, and was supported by Mr. E. J. Judd, who took tho place of Mr. Galland, who was unable to bo present owing to the flood. Mr. Trainer seconded the motion, which was also supported by Messrs. Honsman. Exall, and Eastwood. Messrs. Ritchie, Gardner, and Clayton opposed the resolution, which was defeated by 20 votes to 12. Mr. Fargher occupied the chair. Next Tuesday evening the president (Rev. J. R .M'lCenzie) will give an address, in which he will briefly describe the impressions which he formed as a result of his recent trip round tho world.
