TUBERCULOSIS.
* THE BRITISH COMMISSION. BOVINE FORM IS COMMUNICABLE TO MAN. VERDICT IN A LONG DISPUTEBy Telegraph—tress Association-Copyright (Rec, July 13, 0.20 a.m.) London, July 12. Tho final report of tho Royal Commission on Tuberculosis has been issued. Tho report concludes with the statement that bovine tuberculosis is readily commumcab!o to infants and children, often with fatal results. Tho abdominal organs and cervical glands of tho children are particularly susceptible to bovine tuberculosis. Cows' milk is a large source of infection, and ono-half of tho cases of children dying from abdominal tuberculosis are duo to tho bovine bacillus alone. Adult cases, especially those of tuberculosis of tho lungs are generally traceable to the human germ, but cases of bovine tuberculosis in adults are sufficiently extensive to prove that it will incapacitate at any stage of life. The Commissioners recommend that stringent regulations should bo made for the Government supervision of meat and milk, to safeguard tho public health, irrespective of whether the cows are suffering from the disease in their udders' or their internal organs. The oost of the Commission's inquiries during the last decade has totalled £75,557. ' Seven more volumes dealing with the investigations are promised. They will relate chiefly to the details of the experiments at Lord Blythe's farm.
