» PEASANT ACQUITTED OF MURDER. Bj TtlecraDh-l'ress Associalion-Oopyrlrhl (Rec. July 11, 11.25 p.m.) Paris, July 11. A peasant named Charles Midland, formerly of Ambrisson, has been awarded £1200 as compensation for seventeen years' penal servitude in French Guinea for murdering a neighbouring farmer. The confession of another convict had resulted in Midland's acquitlal. Midland is now 16 years old. His wife throughout believed him innocent. There was a tremendous ovation in Court when his innocence- was announced. The acquittal has been placarded in the Ambrisson district, and inserted in the newspapers.
