HUTT COUNTY COUNCIL.
The Hutt County Council met yesterday, Mr. M. .1. Lynch Cchairriau), Councillors J. Wakeliam, IT. Galloway, T. Edwards, J. Whitcinau, and >l. W. Welch being presenr. The Inspector of.Works reported,ithat the recent rains had had rather a damaging effect on the roads, especially ou the Akatarawa roads, where the timber traffic was heavy. The Kaitoke and Pakuratahi raadr. required metalling in places. Piledriving for the Wangaroa-Upper Hutt Bridge was commenced on July 3. The Packakariki Hill Road was in good order. The repairing of the Main Road through Taita. and the Gorges was being attended to. The. Day's Bay-Lowry Bay Road was in very fair order, though metalling was still going on. The 'Public Trust Roads at Plimmerton were now complete:!. Mr. Odlin. having agreed to contribute half the cost of surveying tho deviation (of Odlin's I'oad) on condition that the amount he would be called upen to. pay did not exceed £)">, it was decided to carry out the, work.
It was decided to notify the owners cf slaughterhnusse that they must destroy all rats about their premise*. The council will supply the poison. It was decided to call'a special meeting of the council to make a special order to strike a rale for a lean of £300 for the Wainui-o-mata. Road. Tho meeting is to be held on July 21. The ranger was instructed to prosecute the owners of wandering stock. The council agreed, for a period of five years, to keep down the growth of gor.-e in the place where spoil is deposited in fronl of Mr. (iray's property at llorckiwi. The tender of Mr. G. 1:'. Masters, of Miramar, was accepted for .10 chains of format-inn on the Cppcr Hutt-Waikanae Ivoad, at «£9 2s. fid. per chain. Attention wa.s called, to the fact, that certain individuals had not paid the wheel-tax for lorry timber traffic. It was resolved that the clerk bo instructed to sue for outstanding amounts.
