AUTHORESS'S SEPARATION CASE.
A sensational ca-e is. now occupying the attention of the Divorce -Court, Mrs. Irene Shcrnrd—"lrene Osgood," the authoress—suing for a. decree uf judicial separation against her husbaud, Mr. Robert Harborough Sherard, who "is an author. It will be remembered that Mr. Sherard recently brought air action against his wife to recover a number of animals—a hunter, a cat, and several pigs—and manuscripts, which she had detained, although they belonged to him. The Judge ordered Mrs. Sherard k> surrevder them or pay 'JWs— their value—to her 1 husband. During .the hearing of this action Mr. Sherard stated that he had written most of the novels which his wife had claimed as her work. It was stated now that on ono occasion Mr. Sherard returned home drunk. He hammered at his wife's bedroom door with a poker, and, it was said, threatened to burn the hou.'c down, and beat Mrs. Sherard's brains out. On another occasion, tho petitioner's counsel stated. Mr. Shcr.-ird took his wife the throat and threatened, to kill her. Mrs. Sherard said that her husband's favourite expression was that ho would make her life a "red hell."
