WANGANUI—FRESH IN RIVER.

Owing to a fresh in the river several houses in the low-lying parts of the town were flooded 10-day owing to blocks in the channels, and the driving rain made it quite impossible for steamers at the wharf to work cargo. The rain ceased at three o'clock in the afternoon, but it is still very threatening, with every probability of a further downpour.
Messrs. Goldsman and "Wilson, of (he staff of the Magistrate's Court at Wanganui and Palmerston North respectively, have exchanged stations.
Tho Harbour Board has received no reply as yet from tho Railway Department to its announcement of its intention 'to resume control of (he town wharf. The board has deputed its works committee lo confer with its solicitors regarding the preliminary steps lo give effect to its.decision. Some shoaling has recently taken place at the (own wharf, and the dredge is lo be put on to deepen the berthage where, necessary.
