His Excellency the Governor and I.acly Islington are to visit, the Coronation"Exhibition at 11.'15 a.m. to-day. To-day the Acting-Prime Minister, the Hon. A. T. Ngata, the Hon. J. A. Millar, the Hon. T. Mackenzie, and the Hon. D. Buddo will be in Wellington; the Hon. R. M'Koiuie in Nelson, and the Hon. G. Fowlds en route to Wellington. Major-General A. J. Godley, C.8., accompanied by his staff officer. Captain C. F. Thornton, will leave for Feilding today on an official visit. The Acting-Prime Minister stales that nothing will be done in regard to the High ('oniniissionership until the return from England of the Prime Minister. In the meantime. Sir William Hall-Jones has been reappointed until August 31. Dr. H. P. Pickcrill, of Dunedin,. secretary of the New Zealand Dentists' Association, is staying at the Grand Hotel. Mr. R. H. I,oc>, who is prominently connected with silver-plate business ill New York, is n visitor to Wellington. The Mayor (Mr. T. M. Wilford, M.l\) continues'to make good progress towards recovery. His-medieal advisors hope that, if he continues to improve as at..present, it will be possible to remove him in.a few days from Hie private- hospital where lie now is to his own home. Mrs. Milne, at. present, in charge of the school at Tablelands, has been appointed to take charge of Korokoro South School.. Mr. G. A. Thompson has heen appointed to Makairo. Our Feilding correspondent states that Air Robert llornblow, uf Mangaweka, an-. nounccs that he will again bo a candidate j for the Oroua seat at the next general election. The death occurred yesterday of a wellknown Wellington resident, Mr. C. C. N. Barron, at' the age of 7G years, lne deceased, for nearly twenty years, was head of Ihe New Zealand Hansard stall. During the Crimean War Mr. Barron, who was a native of Ireland,'acted as interpreter. Subsequently he joined the service of the P. and 0. Company as a purser. Ho arrived in Auckland in IS6I and joined the editorial staff of tho ' NewZealander" newspaper. When the scat of Government' was removed to Wellington he obtained the position of editor of tho "New Zealand Advertiser. Later he was commissioned by the Government to organise a Hansard staff, and ho remained in charge of that work for the period alreadv mentioned. Deceased is survived by his widow and threo sons and two daughters. There died at Timaru yesterday morning, aged 78, Friedrich Cullnumn, a native of Germany, one of the few survivors of Timaru's early days. He was employed as u bullock driver hero in 185'J, and afterwards tried the goldfields, including Gabriel's Gully. Ho returned to Timaru and carried on business as a baker for ten years, and afterwards as a boot dealer. He prospered and acquired property. He has been a borough councillor. Before coming to New Zealand he was employed on a troopship in connection with the Crimean War He was quilo well and hearty until Friday. Ho leaves two sons and three daughters — Press Association. Mr. J. W. A. Marchant has been appointed a trustee of the Maori Endow-ment-Fund by the Anglican Synod. Appreciation of the work done by tho Eev. J. D. Russell during the past 13 years, as secretary of the Missions to> Seamen, and of his good work as secretary of the Mission of Help, was placed on record at yesterday's meeting of the Anglican Synod. Regret was expressed at the departure of tho Rev. Mr. Russell for Oamaru. Mr. C. P. Powles has been appointed to fill the vacancy. An expression of sympathy with Mr. James Moore, missioner of the Missions to Seamen, in his illness, and appreciation of the good work done by Mr. (and Mrs.) Moore, was passed at "yesterday's session of the Anglican .Synod. Mr. John _ V. M'Donald, late of the literary staff of the Melbourne "Argus," and formerly on the staff of the "Poverty Bay Herald," is now attached to the Australian Press Association in Londou. It is stated that Mr. W. A. M'Naught, tho sheep and wool expert, and lecturer, has been asked in various quarters of tho Taieri electorate to allow himself lo contest the seat at the forthcoming election, in the Opposition interest.
