J , , liunny, wl'fri appeared for the lad?, said they had borne, good characters, but they had apparently given way to sudden temptation. They certainly did not realise tho gravity of their otfence. They hud been properly taken caro of and well educated, and although be knew the J udges had taken a severe view of cases ni this tort, ho thought he might ask that their extreme youth should be taken into consideration. Older persons had been allowed probation after being convicted of offences which were morally ns bad. He asked his Honour not to send them to gaol or to an industrial school. The proceeds of tho theftonly ,C2'or JC3 altogether-had been refunded, partly by themselves and partly oy their parents and guardians. ~ Honour, speaking to the lads, said they had begun life very badly, and it was impossible to say what was going to happen to them. If they continued in tho samp way, • the result would be a career of crime and a life in gaol. Even raw, they were liable to imprisonment tor a number of years, but instead of imprisoning them he would put each of them on two years' probation. They must not bo out at night after returning from their work.and they must not go out before 6 o clock in the morning for the nest nine- months.
