THE ANNUAL MEETING. Tho annual conferonco of the Church of England Men's Society of the Diocese of Wellington will take, place in the Sydney Street Schoolroom-to-day, at 3 p.m. Tho.Bishop of Wellington (Dr. Sprott), will preside. ■ The secretary, in his annual report, states:—Seven new branches have been formed, since our last conference, and the .membership of the society has increased ;by 95,, but it is not by-increasing the inumber of branches or tho membership that the society proves its/lvalue, but by the number of peoplo its'members .bring into the Church by their' prayers and work. Branches of the socioty aro working in 28 of the, 49 parishes in tho diocese, and the vicars and'meu of four other parishes are contemplating starting branches. We have lost our first president, but tho action of our new president, (tho Bishop of .Wellington) in giving the society' the first night after his conserration tends tc££how that he will do all in his power'.to advance the society,along the right.road, and that in him we shall have an inspiring leader. The Rev. J. D. Russell, vice-chairman, has left for Oamaru. Wo.shall miss hiih but his self-sacrificing example cannot .fail to. make us all want, to work for ■the Master. Two other members of the council havo left Wellington during the year, Mr. J. Moore, whose health has broken down, and Mr. H.', W. Monnghan, who is studying for the ministry at Auckland. Messrs. J. H. Baxter, of Petone Branch, and H. A. Hamilton, of St. Paul's Branch, were elected by-the council ,to fill the vacancies. Mr. W.'E. Southwick has been appointed to "ronresent the society on the Immigrants' Welcome Committee, and Messrs. Snell,':Cnsllc, Southwick and Baird have been elected to represent, tho council on t.hfi.'Central Evocative of the Laymen's Missionary Movement."- Ooen-aii' and lantern services were conducted by the society, in Wellington and surrounding districts during Holy Week, under the leadership of tho Rev. C. G. Mutter and Mr. C. B. Burdokin. Your thanks are duo to Bishop Wallis and Mr. C. B. Burrtekin, whoso generosity enabled the council to obtain a lareo supply of lantern slides on exceptionally favourable terms. The following is the programme for tho meeting:— To-day, July 8. 7.30 a.m.—Corporate Communion at St. Peter's Church. 11 a.m.—lnformal meeting between clergy and laitv. in Sydney Street Schoolroom. The Bishop will preside. 3 p.m.—Opening session of conference. 5.45 p.m.—Tea at Godber's, Lambton Quay. 7.15 p.m.—Second session of conference. Sunday, July 9. i p.m.—Mass men's meeting in Concert Chnmber of Town Hall. Address by tho Rev. G. Herbert G. Rosher, vicar of Palmerston North, entitled "Men and Men."
