MORE WORKERS NEEDED. By Telegraph— Press Association—Copyright - London, July 5. The New South Wales Premier (Mr. M'Gowen), Mr. T. A. Coghlan (AgentGeneral), and other Australians inspected the steamer liangatira, which is carrying SOO emigrants to New South Wales, many being the wives and families of previous emigrants; also 250 West Australian nominated passengers. Mr. M'Gowen addressed the emigrants, wishing them prosperity in their new homes, and advising them what to do on arriving at (Sydney. LABOUR SHORTAGE IN VICTORIA. Melbourne, July 6. A conference lias been held between tho Acting-Premier (Mr. Watt), manufacturers, and Trades Hall representatives on the question of the shortage of labour. The manufacturers submitted statistics showing that the factories could provide work for an additional 1198 men and 2058 women. The Trades Hall representatives admitted that there was a shortage in some trades, but contended that there was no need to import labour. The Acting-Premier considered that tho domand which existed could best bo met by obtaining selected immigrants. SYDNEY'S BUILDING BOOM. (Rec. July 6, 9.10 p.m.) Sydney, July 6. The master builders before tho Labour Shortage Commission declared that the present building boom would last for five years, whether there was a drought or not. They considered the only remedy for the labour shortage was a policy of liberal immigration- —
