Enormous crowds gathered at daybreak on tho cliffs at Dover and at. other places between that station and London, to wit-' ness tho arrival of tho competitors in tho international aeroplane raco on their arrival across tho channel from Calais. Tho airmen, after starting from l'aris, flew to Liege by way of Iho Mouse Valley, thence on to Utrecht, in Holland, . back to Brussels, and from Iho Belgium capital across tho border into Franco , again, making for Calais, via lioubnix. Prom Calais the next stage was across to Dover-and then on to Loodon, returning finally to l'aris. A flotilla of French torpedo boats accompanied the aviators across the Channel, and tugs were stationed at various ' points to render a:d in case of a mishap. Tho wenther was beautiful, and the oversea flight was made under tho most' favourable conditions. M. Vedrines was tho first to arrive at Dover from Calais. „ it. Vidart arrived next) then came MM. Gibort, Beaumont, Kimmcring, Garros, and' Valentine. After If. Valentine, the next to arrive at Dover were the machines of MM. Train, Tabutcau, and Rcnaux, tho lostnamed carrying a passenger. M. Bnrra was tho last to arrive. M. Vcdrinos, continuing his flight, reached tho nendon aviation ground, in the suburbs of London, at 8.35 a.m. M. Vidart arrived at 9, M. Kimmcring at 9i, and it. Boaumont at 9.15. MM. Tabutcau, Gibcrt, Barro, and Eβ. ' naux followed in the order given. M. Gibert won tho Cross-Channel Cup, doing the passage in 2277 seconds. M. Beaumont takes tho prize of .£2500 for tho shortest time between Paris and London. If. Vedrines made the quickest fljghtfroin Calais to London.
