Fifteen births and ten marriages were registered. Mr. It. Smith, who has sold his G5-acre .farm-at Mcnzies' Ford to.Mr. A. Deriuer, intends.leaving- (his part of the country. He has been a useful resident, of the Col.vton district, having helped in all public matters. The steps to be taken for enrolling residents in the country electorates, in view of the general'elect ion. will bo commenced on Monday week. Fifteen men will be put on by the local registration officer (Mr. T. Watson) in the Oroua electorate. Dr. Sorley has just left Feildiug en route to San Francisco, where he is going to promote a blight specific which he lias invented, and the rights of which have bsen patented all ever tho world. -
There • was a very sad occurrence'- at Kiwitea on Saturday night, resulting in (ho death of Mr. W. G. Perry, who for pome time had been suffering from an injured spine. On Saturday evening he was found to have fallen in a dam, and though he was rescued before life, was extinct, .all efforts to ■ restore •'him - were without avail, and ho died from the shock. He was IS years of age, and a membsr of a well-known family of farmers. FEATHERSTON. The rainfall at Foathcrston for the past, month was 5.16 inches. l?ain fell on 10 days, tho maximum being registered on June 11, viz., 1.3!) inches. Seven births, two marriages, and ono death were registered here for tho month of June. Preparations are being mado to,hold a skating carnival in tho Town Hall, on July 27, in aid of the fund for the swimming baths. A bachelors' ball will be given in the Kaewaewae Public llull on Thursday July 13. •" The death occurred at Grcytown Hospital on Thursday night of Mr. Wm. Card, sen., aged 80 years, well known iii the early days of the West Coast. The deceased, who was born in Westbnrv Wiltshire, came out to Australia in 1847' leaving Victoria in ISGI for Gabriel's Gully, Otago; and in October, 1864 he went to the West Coast, where he staved till 1878. After three or four years' scrvico with tho Survey Department, he again went to Australia, returning to Now Zealand in ISB7. Since 189!) the late Mr. Card lived a retired life in Featherslon, and up till six months ago had cujoved first-class health. - Deceased was a widower, his wife having predeceased him by twelve years. CARTERTON. A Liberal "social," on somewhat, similar lines to that held-at Carterton recently, is being organised at. On Monday the Carterton branch of the Wairarapa Hgrj Circle dispatclud 12S dozen eggs to the Wellington market. The children attending Die local State school were presented with thoiv Coronation on Monday afternoon. Mr. W. C. Buchanan, M.l'.. distributed them, the Mayor (Mr. F. Feist) being also present. Mr. W. Jf. Singleton, of tho Dairy Produce Division. Department of Agriculture, is holding meetings this week at the Belvedere,' Daleiield, Varkvale, and Taratahi settlements, A discussion on the subject of .viold-tesetiug ot' dairy cows is lo bo a feature of the meetings.
